The Kites returned to winning ways with a commanding 34-10 victory over Fullerians. They secured all five points and head into the off week with momentum firmly on their side.
Head coach Sam Bowers was pleased with the result, while seeing room for more. “A win is a win, and it’s good to win,” he said. “The way we went about it, we could have been a little bit more ruthless in attack. But a five-point bonus-point win is good to take into an off week, and to carry that momentum into the Richmond game in a couple of weeks’ time, which will be a big test for everyone.”
The performance built on the encouraging signs from the second half of last weekend’s game, which the Kites drew. “We played a lot better in that second half, trusted our process and did what we can do,” said Sam. “At times today, when we put that into place, we saw the results. If we can do that more often and trust our processes and our ability, that’s when the full performance comes in.”
He was clear about what the turnaround says about the squad. “To come back and win the next game shows character. It shows that we can do it, and it’s something we’re going to have to do throughout the season. So, good steps moving forward.”
With confidence building, the Kites now turn their attention to Richmond, a fixture Sam describes as arguably their biggest test yet. “It’s going to give us a little bit of confidence going into that. Hopefully we can celebrate a good win and take that into the next couple of weeks of training.”
Two wins from their opening three games is a start the Kites can build on. “It’s a good start,” Sam said, “and something we can build on.”
Final score: Kites 34 – 10 Fullerians
