Youth Rugby

Minis 

Rugby for boys and girls from Under 6 to Under 12, focused on developing skills in a fun and supportive environment. Each age group is led by a qualified coach, with support for organisation and communication. The aim is to build confidence, encourage enjoyment, and help players make friends, while promoting the core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

Junior Boys

Reading RFC runs teams from U12 to U16, along with a Colts squad for 17–18-year-olds, bridging the gap to senior rugby. Players come through the Mini section or join from other sports, developing their skills under experienced coaches in a supportive, inclusive environment. Training is combined with regular matches, with many teams enjoying end-of-season tours. The focus is on development, enjoyment and involvement for all players.

Junior Girls

Reading RFC runs girls’ teams at U12, U14, U16 and U18, providing a strong pathway into the game. Players join from the Minis or take up rugby for the first time as teenagers, developing in a supportive and well-coached environment. The section has a proven track record, with many players progressing to county, regional and national honours. While competitive and ambitious, the focus remains on enjoyment, confidence and team spirit.

Men's Rugby

The Men’s section runs three teams, offering both competitive league rugby and a strong social game. The 1st XV compete in Regional 2 South Central, with opportunities across all levels through the 2s and 3s. The squad blends homegrown talent with players from outside the area, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. All teams train together under experienced coaches, with physio support available on match days. On and off the field, the focus is on enjoyment, development and team spirit. New players of all standards are always welcome.

Women's Rugby (Kites)

Founded in 1990, Reading Women were the first women’s team in Berkshire and remain a key part of the club. The squad continues to grow, with players progressing from the Girls section and others joining the game for the first time. Strong coaching has seen players reach county, regional and international honours, including Olympic level. The 1st XV compete in NC1 South East (West), with a developing second side supporting squad growth. Off the field, the section has a strong social side, with regular events and an annual tour.

Vets Rugby (Rhinos)

The Reading Rhinos, our veterans side, have been playing for over 35 years, offering rugby for players aged 35+. Fixtures are against other vets and social sides, with a squad ranging from mid-30s to players still going strong into their 60s. The focus is on competitive rugby, camaraderie and keeping club traditions alive. Off the field, the Rhinos are known for their strong social side, including their annual tour. New players are always welcome.

Walking Rugby

Walking Rugby began at Reading RFC in 2015 and has since grown into a key part of the club and the wider game. Open to all abilities, it offers a sociable, low-impact way to stay active, with plenty of movement and a strong community feel. Sessions combine light rugby with fitness and a welcoming atmosphere both on and off the pitch. Sessions take place at the club on Tuesday mornings (10:30–12:00), Wednesday evenings (19:30–20:30) and Sunday mornings (11:00–12:00). New players are always welcome.

Berkshire Brigands

The Berkshire Brigands are the county’s first mixed ability rugby team, based at Reading RFC. Open to players aged 17+, the team brings together those with learning disabilities, autism or other barriers, alongside players without, all playing competitive rugby in an inclusive environment. Built on the core values of the game and supported by the RFU and International Mixed Ability Sport, the Brigands are a true community team.
